Canine2 Presents:
The Iron Dog Competition April 8th and 9th.
Canine2 is owned and operated by Sarge who has trained dogs over 30 years. He was the training director for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Law Enforcement Canine Unit. Sarge started Canine2 -14 years ago. The Canine2 training facility is located in Palos Hills, Illinois. His training stresses control, obedience, agility, and detection work. Classes are held in the spring and fall by reservation only. Sarge was President of The United States Police Canine Association Region 24, and a Member of Dogs Against Drugs / Dogs Against Crimes Association. Once a year Canine2 hosts the Iron Dog competition. The course is approximately 1.5 miles long with each team finding themselves traveling through water, running up and down hills, over fallen trees, and hiking through winding paths in the woods. To top that off there are obstacles such as hurdles, stairs, etc. standing in your path waiting to be conquered.
Other activities include a scramble ramp, a toys pit, and at one point an offender will jump out at you and your canine . Other scenarios include crawling under tarps and other low obstacles, and running through tires and other obstacles. For any scenario not completed properly there will be penalty time added to your finish time. The entire event is timed for each individual, and will be completed on lead. To make it a easier there will not be any point loss for extra commands or needed obedience, therefore you and your dog may concentrate only on the goal...completing the course in the fastest time!
There are three different age groups for the competition... #(1) 18 thru 35 ... #(2) 36 thru 47 ... #(3) 48 and over. You must have proof of age. There are women and men divisions in each of these age groups. Registration fee will be $50, Spectator fee $2. Prizes and Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each age category. This year proceeds will be donated to the Friends of Sheltered Children In Kenya, charitable organization. This organization helps sheltered orphans in Kenya, Africa who suffers with the aids virus, lack of water, food and lodging. This organization also assist in finding sponsors for these parentless children. ATTENTION! Iron Dog contestants:: The place everyone will be staying is the Hampton Inn, 13330 South Cicero in Crestwood Illinois. Phone# [708] 597-3330 ask for the Canine2 Iron Dog Package. Everyone must reserve their rooms by the 27th of March. Must make your reservation for shuttle pick up the night before arrival. If driving in from the North- take I-294 South- to Cicero exit South. If coming in from the South- take I-294 North- to Cicero exit South- to 13330 South Cicero.
